As Strictly draws to a close and more celebrities prepare to enter the jungle, the longer nights bring their own dramas. This October, vehicle thefts became the unexpected reality show, with a notable £900,000 rise in recovery values compared to September. Thanks to Global Telemetrics’ monitored tracking devices, £3.5 million worth of vehicles were successfully recovered.
October’s Facts and Figures
Once again, Land Rover topped the list of recovered vehicles, making up 22% of all recoveries in October. The Range Rover Vogue and Range Rover Sport were equally represented in these statistics.
In line with recent months, motorhomes and the Toyota Hilux also featured prominently in recoveries. Motorhomes, often targeted while in storage, remain a consistent target for thieves. This highlights the importance of robust tracking systems. For details on our specialised motorhome tracking devices, visit our website.
Additionally, high-end brands such as Mercedes, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Bailey, and BMW were among the notable recoveries this month.
October’s Most Interesting Recovery
October saw an unforgettable weekend of action, resulting in not one but two chop shops being dismantled. The first operation led to the recovery of six stolen vehicles. The second, driven by the SmarTrack tracking device installed in a customer’s Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, culminated in seven recoveries within just 12 minutes.

October’s Quickest Recovery
Speed proved vital in this month’s most rapid recovery. Early in October, an Alfa Romeo Giulia was safely located and secured just 12 minutes after being stolen from a London home. Similarly, the recovery of the Ferrari mentioned earlier not only showcased swift action but also contributed to the immediate dismantling of a chop shop.
These outcomes highlight the seamless collaboration between our in-house Repatriations Team and local law enforcement.
Hotspots
London retained its position as the leading hotspot for vehicle theft, accounting for 22% of all stolen vehicles recovered during the month. Among the London boroughs, Newham recorded the highest theft rates. The West Midlands secured second place, while Glasgow emerged as a surprise addition to the list, landing in third. In Glasgow, recoveries included motorhomes tied to a fraud case, resolved efficiently thanks to tracking systems installed in two of the affected vehicles.
Looking Forward
As the festive season approaches, the cold weather introduces an annual risk: thefts due to unattended, warming vehicles. Leaving your car running to defrost may seem convenient, but it provides the perfect opportunity for thieves.
To avoid becoming a statistic this winter, remember to stay vigilant and never leave your vehicle unattended while it’s running.
