As the heatwave swept across the UK, bringing the hottest days of the year so far, our teams at Global Telemetrics were also heating things up in the fight against vehicle theft. While the nation was entertained by the Olympics, including viral sensations like the breakdancing Australian Ray-Gun, UK thieves were far from achieving gold. Thanks to the vigilant monitoring of our vehicle trackers, we successfully recovered £2.3 million worth of vehicles in July alone.
July’s Facts and Figures
This month, we saw a tie for the top spot in vehicle recoveries, with BMW and Jaguar Land Rover models each making up 19% of all vehicles recovered. Notably, the Range Rover Sport and Fiat Ducato-based motorhomes were the most frequently stolen vehicles.
Other brands on the rise in our recovery statistics included Audi, Toyota, Mercedes, Honda, Lexus, and Volkswagen, all of which were successfully returned to their rightful owners.
July’s Most Interesting Recovery
At Global Telemetrics, we’re not just about locating stolen vehicles—our teams take pride in their ability to disrupt criminal activity and recover other stolen vehicles along the way.
In mid-July, one of our customers’ Lexus vehicles was stolen from their driveway in the dead of night. Our Repatriation Team quickly homed in on the location and discovered the vehicle at a loading site alongside other stolen cars, including another Lexus, a Jaguar E-Pace, a Land Rover Discovery, and a Mercedes Sprinter. Engine parts from a Toyota and a Mercedes, all destined for export to Africa, were also found.
Thanks to the swift action of our team and the effectiveness of our Thatcham-approved tracker, these vehicles were all recovered and returned to their owners. This operation was one of three chop shops we helped shut down in July, putting a significant dent in the criminal underworld’s activities.
July’s Quickest Recovery
Speed is often of the essence in vehicle recovery, and this month, we set a new record. It took just 11 minutes for our team to recover a BMW M4, stolen at the start of the month. Recovered on behalf of one of our finance company clients, the vehicle was quickly secured and returned to its rightful owner, highlighting our team’s efficiency and dedication.
Hotspots
For the first time since we began monitoring recovery hotspots, the West Midlands topped the list, accounting for 37% of all recoveries in July. London followed with 22%, and Lancashire came in third with 15%.
