November insights: recoveries, trends, and tips from Global Telemetrics
As the festive season approaches, with shoppers busy targeting the perfect gifts, thieves remain equally busy targeting vehicles. However, thanks to Global Telemetrics’ advanced GPS tracking devices, November saw an impressive £1.9 million worth of stolen vehicles successfully recovered. Here’s a closer look at last month’s key statistics, notable recoveries, and advice to keep your vehicles secure.
November recovery highlights
Most recovered vehicle: BMW X5
Since topping our recovery charts in 2012 and 2013, the BMW X5 continues to be a preferred target for thieves. In November, this vehicle accounted for 19% of all stolen recoveries, reaffirming its place as a perennial target for criminal activity.
Other vehicles recovered included:
- Range Rover Sport and Vogue models
- Jaguar F-Pace
- Additional BMW models such as the M3 and 530E
- Mercedes CLA and Arocs
- Toyota Rav 4
- Vauxhall Movano
- Auto-Sleeper Kingham
Notably, our most expensive recovery this month was a luxurious Bentley Bentayga. Additionally, we recovered industrial machinery, a Takeuchi TB230, highlighting our ability to protect not just personal vehicles but also vital business assets.
Spotlight on plant and industrial machinery
The theft of industrial machinery can have severe consequences for businesses. Global Telemetrics provides tailored solutions for plant and industrial equipment, including the Thatcham-approved S7 wireless device. Most interesting recovery: Bentley Bentayga
While most stolen vehicles are taken via keyless methods, this wasn’t the case with November’s standout recovery. A customer’s home was burgled overnight, and their Bentley Bentayga was stolen along with its keys. Fortunately, the vehicle was fitted with one of our advanced tracking systems. This enabled our team, in collaboration with the police, to locate the vehicle and apprehend a suspect.
Quickest recovery of the month
Global Telemetrics prides itself on swift recoveries, with the majority achieved in under an hour. In November, the fastest recovery took just 17 minutes. A Jaguar F-Pace, stolen just after 1:15 am, was located and secured by our team and the police before 1:35 am, an outstanding demonstration of teamwork by our Secure Control Centre, our Repatriations Team and the police.
Regional hotspots
Throughout 2024, recovery hotspots have shifted, with London leading as the top location for vehicle recoveries year-to-date. However, November’s most active region was the West Midlands, accounting for 31% of all recoveries. London and West Yorkshire rounded out the top three regions for the month.
Winter security advice
As winter sets in, we remind vehicle owners not to leave their cars unattended while warming up or defrosting. This common practice provides an easy opportunity for thieves to strike. Stay vigilant to protect your vehicle.
